Delta IV GPS IIF-01 Launch Set May 20

The U.S. Air Force will launch the first Global Positioning System Block IIF satellite aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta IV Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle from Space Launch Complex 37 here May 20. The launch window is 11:29-11:48 p.m. (EDT). The GPS IIF system brings next-generation performance to the constellation. The start-up company Star2Earth, reared in the ESA Business Incubation Centre in the Netherlands, will improve electricity production from a hydroelectric plant on Lake Laja in Chile by using navigation satellite signals to measure water levels and wave heights. Australian officials Thursday said a "very tired" sailor's simple navigation errors caused a cargo ship to run aground and badly damage the Great Barrier Reef, as two crew faced court over the crash.
