Westinghouse and John Barrow Celebrate Construction Progress at Plant Vogtle

Westinghouse Electric Company and its nuclear construction consortium partners achieved a significant milestone as the 40 hour and 46 minute continuous placement of nuclear concrete for Georgia Power's Vogtle Unit 4 AP1000 nuclear reactor was safely concluded.

"We've reached a critical milestone in completing the expansions at Plant Vogtle," said U.S. Rep. John Barrow of Georgia's 12th Congressional District. "The expansion, the first in more than 30 years for a nuclear facility, is creating good-paying jobs in our region, and will provide a safe, reliable energy source for Georgians. I congratulate Georgia Power, CB&I, and Westinghouse for reaching this milestone, and I look forward to continuing to work with them as this project continues."

Westinghouse Nuclear Power Plants Senior Vice President Jeff Benjamin said, "This has been an exciting month for Westinghouse; our consortium partner, CB&I; and our customers, as we successfully completed the basemat nuclear concrete placement for the second AP1000 units at both the V.C. Summer and Vogtle nuclear sites.

"This milestone has now been achieved at all eight of the AP1000 units we are delivering to our customers globally. Lessons learned and best practices from each of these projects are continually incorporated, allowing us to be more efficient.

"I am proud of our progress on these units, and I'm proud of the talented employees who have made these achievements possible. Realizing each of these major milestones brings our utility customers one step closer to providing additional safe, reliable, clean baseload electricity from nuclear power."
