Viasat Awarded Satcom 2 Contract From General Services Administration

ViaSat Inc. has been selected by the General Services Administration Federal Technology Service (GSA/FTS) for a five-year, $90 million Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract to provide the full range of ViaSat satellite communication (satcom) products and services to government agencies.

All agencies of the Federal Government, including the Department of Defense, can use the contract to purchase satellite communication systems, information assurance products, and engineering services.

The IDIQ contract provides access to the full range of ViaSat offerings, including LinkStar(R) and LinkWay(R) VSAT terminals and services, UHF satcom equipment, network encryption equipment, and Ku-band "comm on the move" terminals and services.

In addition, the contract provides satellite bandwidth on a global basis, mobile satcom terminals and services from multiple systems, systems engineering support for defining and planning systems for potential government requirements including secure networks, and Ka-band services.

"This contract is an opportunity to better serve our customers by providing a total spectrum of cost-effective, commercial satellite communication systems to all federal agencies," said Mark Schwene, director of strategic initiatives for ViaSat Government Satcom Systems.

Astrium Delivers Anik F3 Satellite To Orbit
Toulouse, France (SPX) May 05, 2007
Telesat's Anik F3 satellite has completed in-orbit tests at the 118.7oW orbital slot and has now entered commercial service. The satellite was formally handed over to Telesat by satellite manufacturer Astrium Satellites on 30 April 2007, just three weeks after launch. Operating 24 active transponders in C-band, 32 in Ku-band and a small payload in Ka-band, Anik F3 will provide valuable broadcasting, telecommunications, business communications and Internet-based services.
