The U.S. State Department has approved the proposed sale of $231 million in guided munitions to several European countries. Required notification was sent to Congress on Tuesday, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, which oversees the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program, said in a statement Thursday. NATO's support and procurement agency requested the sale, which includes equipment and support, on behalf of Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Spain. The order includes 2,040 joint direct attack munition guidance kits of various iterations, as well as computer control groups, joint programmable fuzes and bomb fin assembly and airfoil groups. Also included in the deal would be laser sensors, proximity sensors, avionics kit interfaces, electronic bomb fuzes, repair and return services, transportation, engineering services and other support services. The sale would improve NATO members' ability to meet current and future ground threats and provide a deterrent to regional threats, the agency said. Boeing Corporation and Raytheon Missile Systems would be the prime production contractors.
Swedish military orders Carl-Gustaf ammunition The ammunition, in a variety of types, will be delivered next year and is worth more than $14.3 million. "With this order, of both live and training ammunition, the Swedish Armed Forces continues its efforts to increase the capability of its army on the battlefield. The order is definitely a strong proof of the customer's trust in the system and in Saab as a supplier," said Gorgen Johansson, head of Saab's Dynamics business area. The Carl-Gustaf is an 84mm anti-tank that was originally introduced in 1948. Its modern version is used in anti-armor warfare as well as for clearing obstacles and engaging enemies in buildings. Additional details of the Swedish military order were not disclosed.
