Brazil's Technological Institute of Aeronautics is building a helicopter technology laboratory as a result of a cooperative agreement with Sikorsky Aircraft.

The Brazilian Air Force reports that the agreement to advance rotary wing aircraft technology in Brazil also provides for scholarships for undergraduate thesis projects in helicopter technology and collaboration in the creation of a course in the area.

"This partnership is here to stay, as there is a lot of experience on both sides to share," said Antonio Pugas, vice president of Sikorsky in Latin America.

Added Sebastian Cavalli, Economic Development Secretary, Science and Technology: "This joint initiative of the ITA and Sikorsky is strategic for the country's economic development, since it increases business competitiveness by fostering technology and innovation."

The Technological Institute of Aeronautics in Sao Jose dos Campos is a premier engineering school operated by the Brazilian government and with support from the Brazilian Air Force.
