Raytheon Nets US Army Award For Infrared Technology Kits

The U.S. Army has awarded Raytheon Company $173 million to provide second-generation infrared kits for a variety of combat systems.

The firm fixed price award modifies an existing contract and provides an additional 6,153 Horizontal Technology Integration (HTI) Second Generation-Forward Looking Infrared (SG-FLIR) Block 1 A/B-Kits.

"SG-FLIR is a core infrared sensor supporting fire control and surveillance on several critical U.S. Army ground combat systems," said Bernie Smith, Raytheon senior program manager for HTI. "This award also includes foreign military sales to Iraqi and Egyptian forces to provide thermal receiver upgrades for M1 Abrams tanks."

Raytheon Network Centric Systems has delivered more than 10,000 HTI SG-FLIR kits to the U.S. Army for a variety of platforms, providing clear, accurate, day and night situational awareness for the soldier. The work under this contract will be managed by the company's Combat Systems group in McKinney, Texas.

Upgraded COBRA DANE Radar Transferred To USAF

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) has announced the transfer of the COBRA DANE radar located at Shemya, Alaska, from MDA to the U.S. Air Force.
