Tewksbury, MA (SPX) Mar 09, 2012

Patriot is the world's most capable air and missile defense system, protecting against a full range of advanced threats, including aircraft, tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. It is the system of choice for 12 nations around the globe.

Raytheon has received a $138.7 million contract to provide engineering services for the Patriot Air and Missile Defense System. This is the third of four annual options to the base contract awarded in 2009, which brings the total amount to date to $803 million. These continued improvements enhance the capability of Patriot to face evolving threats.

Issued by the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala., the contract calls for Raytheon to continue to deliver systems analysis, software and hardware engineering, testing and logistics support.

"This award represents the U.S. Army's continued commitment to the Patriot Air and Missile Defense System deployed by the U.S. and 11 international partners," said Sanjay Kapoor, vice president of Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business.

"Ongoing sustainment through engineering services ensures that the Patriot systems are at the highest level of readiness."

Work under this contract will be performed by Raytheon at the Integrated Air Defense Center, Andover, Mass.; IDS Headquarters, Tewksbury, Mass.; the Warfighter Protection Center, Huntsville, Ala.; and the Mission Capability Verification Center, White Sands, N.M.
