QinetiQ producing carrier takeoff/landing system components

QinetiQ North America is to deliver control hardware and software for aircraft launch and landing systems to be installed on the U.S. Navy's next aircraft carrier.

The contract for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and the Advanced Arresting Gear components for the future John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) was issued by General Atomics and is worth $16 million.

"QinetiQ North America is honored to once again be working with General Atomics to begin production on the second ship in the Ford-class, CVN 79," said QNA's Director of Maritime Systems Andrew Courier. "We are proud to play a role in providing the Navy with this latest technology that will increase reliability, improve operational efficiencies and significantly decrease lifecycle costs."

QNA first developed and produced the hardware and software for the pre-commission carrier, Gerald R. Ford.

The new multi-year award reflects a production task to update, procure, assemble and test the launch control and arresting hardware, the company said.
