Northrop Grumman and the United Steelworkers (Local 8888) held a dedication ceremony on May 22 to celebrate the completion of the fifth house built for Habitat for Humanity serving the Virginia Peninsula.

Habitat for Humanity builds simple and affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter. The house, which is being called the "Labor Management House 5," is located on 28th Street in Newport News, Va. and is the first two-story house built by Northrop Grumman and the Local 8888. It will be approximately 1,300 square feet with three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms.

Representatives from Northrop Grumman, the United Steelworkers, Habitat for Humanity and homeowner, Gertrude "Trudy" Corbin, participated in the ceremony.

"I am so excited and proud to provide a home for my family," Corbin said. "They will now have a permanent place to call home."

Northrop Grumman provided volunteers and financial support and coordinated the resources for this project.

"Today this will become Trudy's house," said Scott Stabler, vice president, CVN 77 Program, Northrop Grumman Newport News. "And much of the same spirit, energy and enthusiasm that she brings is passed to this house and to her family as well. She personally contributed over 400 hours of her own effort to bring this house together."
