Moventas Australia is about to enter their first major CMaS agreements with local wind farms. Tried and tested, CMaS was found the best value for money, says the customer who operates the Starfish Hill and Toora wind farms.

Moventas Australia in Somersby, NSW, has won significant new deals on Moventas' groundbreaking condition management system CMaS. Moventas will install several CMaS systems on the Starfish Hill wind farm, with 1.5 MW NEGMicon turbines, as well as on the Toora wind farm with 1.75 MW Vestas turbines.

The customer chose the CMaS as their condition management system, as they found it the best one with an oil monitoring capability. Unlike many other systems, CMaS keeps a watchful eye on seven key parameters: temperature, vibration, load, pressure, RPM, oil condition and oil particulates.

- This customers clearly saw that CMaS is the best value for money. Starfish Hill has trialed two systems already and they felt that ours was the best deal out of all systems trialed with an oil monitoring capability, says Moventas Australia's unit head Matthew Gepner.

A CMaS customer can either manage their wind farm independently with the help of the system, or use the expert management service that Moventas provides. The expert service also interested the operator of the Starfish Hill and Toora wind farms.

Nevin Lenk from the maintenance provider Transfield Worley Power Services recently visited the Jyvaskyla Remote Centre in Finland and became convinced of Moventas' remote monitoring service that both his customers need. Once CMaS is installed, Moventas' Jyvaskyla Remote Centre will be watching over those turbines.

CMaS can watch over thousands of drivetrains globally, significantly increasing cost efficiency. For end-users, it guarantees the continuity of their energy yield. Moventas' CMaS has been developed to monitor how the gearbox and other drivetrain components in are performing, 24/7. Even more importantly, it anticipates possible upcoming failures, responding by providing you with timely updates and alerting maintenance crews and hence provides a fast payback time for a wind farm owner.

Originally designed for the wind industry, the CMaS system is also equally suitable for any industrial power transmission. Moventas Australia has recently fitted one in a gold mine.
