Mio And Qualcomm Announce Collaboration To Develop Connected Personal Navigation Devices

Mio's new connected PNDs will be based on the QST1100 chipset from Qualcomm, the first solution to integrate application processing, GPS and cellular connectivity for ubiquitous connectivity and sleeker form-factors. Mio Technology and Qualcomm have announced a collaboration to develop connected personal navigation devices (PNDs). These new connected PNDs will leverage Qualcomm's technology with the QST1100 chipset to deliver industry-leading GPS performance and cellular connectivity for real-time traffic updates, voice call capabilities and more.

"Qualcomm's legacy of wireless communications brings new possibilities to consumer devices, and we are very excited about our relationship with Mio that will bring integrated cellular connectivity, GPS and application processing to PNDs," said Luis Pineda, senior vice president of marketing and product management for Qualcomm CDMA Technologies.

"Our technology, coupled with Mio's extensive device design expertise, will usher in a new generation of connected consumer devices aimed at propelling the industry toward the next level of functionality."

Columbus Supplies GIS Application To Zion Oil

Columbus Geographic Systems has announced that Zion Oil and Gas (Zion) has purchased Columbus' SmartView to meet their needs for an advanced geographic information system (GIS) application for oil and gas exploration. Zion is a U.S. oil and gas exploration company, based in Dallas, Texas. The company's shares are traded on AMEX. Zion uses SmartView to improve their capabilities to identify and map geological factors related to potential oil and gas deposits.
