Mexico's state oil company PEMEX said on Monday it shut down all its facilities in the Gulf of Mexico and evacuated all staff from its rigs and platforms ahead of the anticipated landfall of Hurricane Dean.

Petroleos Mexicanos said it shut down all 140 facilities.

Forecasters expect Dean to slam ashore on Mexico's Caribbean coast before dawn on Tuesday and cross the Yucatan Peninsula to emerge in the Gulf of Mexico.
