Lockheed gets $241 million for F-35 electronic components

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Co. has been awarded a $241 million U.S. Navy contract modification for the F-35 Lightning II.

The deal covers procurement of diminishing manufacturing sources electronic components.

The modification will support aircraft production through the Lightning II's Lot 15 for U.S. and international facilities.

Work will be performed in Vermont and Texas, and is expected to be completed in December 2018.

The contract combines purchases for the Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy, foreign military sales customers and international partners.

The Naval Air Systems Command is the contracting activity.

The fifth-generation fighter combines stealth with speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network-enabled operations and advanced sustainment.

Three F-35 variants will replace the Air Force's A-10 and F-16, the Navy's F/A-18, the Marine Corps' F/A-18 and AV-8B Harrier and a variety of fighters for at least ten other countries.
