Lockheed Martin JASSM order to include sales to Poland, Finland

A U.S. Air Force order for Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles from Lockheed Martin includes sales to Poland and Finland.

The contract announced Thursday, valued at $302.2 million, includes $46.7 million in Foreign Military Sales funds for previously approved sales to the governments of Finland and Poland. Lockheed Martin will be tasked with production, system upgrades, integration, management, entertainment and logistical support.

The Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile, also known as JASSM, is a long-range, conventional air-to-ground missile designed to engage well-defended moving targets. The 2,000-pound weapon is equipped with a penetrator and blast fragmentation warhead, launched using an infrared seeker and anti-jam GPS to improve accuracy.

The U.S. Armed Forces have integrated the missile into a variety of aircraft, including the F-16, B-1, B-2, and B-52. JASSM is also certified on the Royal Australian Air Force's F/A-18.

Lockheed Martin is currently focusing on integrating JASSM into the F-35 Lightning II multi-role fighter jet.
