Latvia orders Sentinel 3-D radars

Latvia has ordered mobile three-dimensional phased-array radar systems from ThalesRaytheonSystems for detecting, identifying and tracking airborne threats.

The Improved Sentinel AN/MPQ-64 F1 air defense radars, which operate in the X-band frequency range, are a primary sensing component for NASAMS, or the National Advanced Surface to Air Missile Systems, and are suitable for use in a variety of threat detection and tracking scenarios.

"Sentinel meets the unique requirements of the Latvia Armed Forces, giving them the ability to more effectively meet today's ever-evolving threat," said Ross Niebergall, chief executive officer, ThalesRaytheonSystems, US Operations. "The radar provides accurate, reliable situational awareness that many nations, including the United States, rely on for air defense."

ThalesRaytheonSystems said Latvia has ordered four radar units to augment their current radar system. Information on the monetary value of the order and expected delivery schedule for the Improved Sentinel AN/MPQ-64 F1 units were not disclosed.
