Israel taps Elbit Systems for advanced radios
by Richard Tomkins
Washington (UPI) Mar 22, 2017

Elbit Systems Ltd has been awarded a five-year Israeli Ministry of Defense contract for the supply of advanced radio systems.

Hundreds of radio systems will be provided under the approximately $100 million cotract.

Among the systems to be supplied by Elbit are hand-held, vehicle-mounted and airborne third-generation Software Defined Radios for advanced network services at a high security level, according to the company.

Elbit Systems said it also expects to receive a 15-year additional order from the Ministry of Defense to provide repair and maintenance services for the systems.

The company said it plans to expand its facility in Arad, Israel, for the production and maintenance of the radio systems.

"We are very proud of this award, reinforcing our strategic partnership with the city of Arad on the one hand and with the IDF on the other," Bezhalel Machlis, president and CEO of Elbit Systems, said in a press release. "Employing 100 workers in Arad is in line with Elbit Systems' strategy to enhance our presence in Israel's peripheral areas. We have many years of experience in managing outsourcing projects in Israel and abroad, in radio communications as well as other military fields, and I am confident this experience will enable us to provide the IMOD with a top quality highly operational solution for a cost-effective price."
