Iran says it has equipped tanks with anti-TOW jamming system

The head of Iran's ground forces said Wednesday that the country has quipped its M60 tanks with anti-TOW missile jamming systems.

Brig. Gen. Ahmadreza Pourdastan said in an interview with the army magazine Saf, as reported by the semi-official Fars News Agency, that the new system will also disrupt other anti-tank missiles.

TOW missiles -- tube-launched, optically-tracked, wireless-guided -- are long range, heavy assault, anti-armor ordnance that can also be used against fortifications and during amphibious landings, according to manufacturer Raytheon.

The Iranian army also plans to strengthen its missile capability in the current Iranian year, which began March 20, he said.

The lieutenant commander of the army's ground forces, Brig. Gen. Kioumars Heidari, said in February that troops have also received "Karrar" tanks, which are similar to the Russian T-90.
