Energia Posts 220 Percent Rise In 2006 Net Profit

Energia, a Russian rocket and space company, said Monday its net profit calculated to Russian Accounting Standards (RAS) grew 220% year-on-year in 2006 to 509.5 million rubles (about $20 million). S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, which designs Soyuz-piloted spaceships and Progress carrier rockets, launches communications satellites, and operates the Russian segment of the International Space Station, attributed the higher figure to a dynamic increase in revenue from commercial services in 2006.

Sales grew 38% in the reporting period to 8.69 billion rubles (about $337 million) while pre-tax profit was up 160% to more than 789 million rubles (about $31 million), Energia said.

The Corporate Board of Directors has given its preliminary approval to the annual report of the public corporation "S.P.Korolev RSC Energia" for the year 2006. According to the accounting, the net profit of the corporation in 2006 amounted to 509 million rubles. The annual report is now submitted for approval to the annual stockholders' meeting which is scheduled for June 29, 2007.

During May 14-18, 2007 the Exhibition Center on the Krasnaya Presnya hosts the Svyaz-Ekspokomm International Exhibition focused on communication systems, telecommunication aids, computers and office equipment.

Exposition of Rocket and Space Corporation Energia after S.P. Korolev is part of the stand provided by OAO Gazkom, RSC Energia's partner in the Yamal satellite design and operational use.

RSC Energia exhibits involve the models of the Yamal telecommunication satellites, Earth remote sensing spacecraft, as well as the International Space Station, new-generation reusable manned space vehicle Clipper.

Russia And ESA Sign Contract For Four Soyuz Launches From Kourou

Samara-based design bureau Progress plans to sign a contract with the European Space Agency at Le Bourget air show for the launch of four Soyuz-ST carrier rockets from the Kourou space center in French Guiana. Progress spokesman Alexander Kirilin said the first contract will be signed in mid-June. The company has already built the first two Soyuz-ST rockets to be shipped to French Guiana by sea.
