China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) successfully launched a Long March 2D carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in Sichuan province at 7:45 am on Sunday, delivering the new Yaogan 42B remote-sensing satellite into its planned orbit.

The Yaogan 42B, the newest member of China's expanding remote-sensing satellite fleet, is designed to enhance Earth observation capabilities. These satellites are integral in collecting data through the detection of reflected and emitted radiation from Earth's surfaces, providing valuable information for both land and maritime applications.

Equipped with liquid propellants, the Long March 2D rocket has a liftoff thrust of 300 metric tons and specializes in placing payloads like the 1.3-ton Yaogan 42B into sun-synchronous orbits approximately 700 kilometers above Earth.

The satellite and its carrier rocket, both products of the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, a CASC subsidiary, underline China's growing proficiency in aerospace technologies.

This latest launch is the 17th of the year for China, marking the 517th flight for the Long March rocket series, which continues to serve as a cornerstone in China's space exploration endeavors.
