Capella Space Corp., a pioneering American space technology company known for its innovative data and satellite solutions, has announced a significant milestone in its mission to enhance Earth observation capabilities. In a strategic collaboration with SpaceX, Capella Space will launch two of its Acadia satellites - Acadia-4 and Acadia-5 - in the year 2024.

Scheduled for launch during SpaceX's Bandwagon-1 mission, the Acadia-4 satellite will embark on a journey to a 45-degree mid-inclination orbit (MIO) no earlier than April 2024. Meanwhile, Acadia-5 is set to be launched into a 97-degree sun-synchronous orbit (SSO) as part of the Transporter-11 mission, facilitated by Exolaunch, which will provide mission management and integration services. This launch is anticipated no earlier than June 2024.

Frank Backes, CEO of Capella Space, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with SpaceX, stating, "Working with SpaceX to launch our Acadia satellites into a variety of orbits is a huge win for Capella and will enhance our ability to bring greater coverage and higher revisits over key areas of interest across our customer spectrum." He emphasized the advanced system design of the Acadia satellites, which provides up to five times more on-orbit imaging time per satellite compared to other commercial SAR providers. This capability positions Capella Space as a leading provider of reliable information for governments, academia, and the commercial sector, fostering better decision-making through deeper insights.

The Bandwagon service, announced by SpaceX in early August, offers a novel opportunity for satellite operators like Capella Space to launch satellites into mid-inclination orbits on rideshare missions. The decision to launch Acadia-4 and Acadia-5 into MIO and SSO orbits underscores Capella's commitment to unparalleled orbital and temporal diversity. This strategic positioning enables Capella's constellation to achieve high-frequency revisits over key regions and collect imagery at times that are unpredictable for potential adversaries, enhancing the value and security of the data collected.
