A Brazilian subsidiary of Israel's Elbit Systems has received a framework contract to supply remote-controlled weapon stations to the Brazilian army.

The contract to Ares Aeroespacial e Defesa S.A. for 12.7/7.62mm REMAX weapon stations is worth $100 million and includes provision of associated equipment and services.

Elbit Systems said an initial production order, valued at about $7.5 million, has been received by Ares, which will deliver the systems over a five-year period.

"Brazil is a very important market for Elbit Systems and we are pleased to be awarded a follow-on contract for the supply of REMAX to the Brazilian Army, attesting to the customer's satisfaction from the previous award," said Bezhalel "Butzi" Machlis, president and chief executive officer of Elbit Systems. "We have witnessed a growing demand for RCWS all over the world and we trust that further customers will follow and acquire our advanced and mature weapon stations."

The REMAX system for machine guns have already been fielded in Brazilian army Guarani 6X6 vehicles.

REMAX will be used in Brazilian army armored vehicles and logistics vehicles.
