Billboards in Pensacola to Use Breakthrough Eco-Friendly Technology

In Pensacola, Fla., a digital billboard is operating with solar power using new light reflecting technology. magink has announced that Lamar Outdoor Advertising has successfully utilized its Gen 3 reflective technology-based billboard.

The magink partnership represents Lamar's ongoing efforts to implement new eco-friendly technologies in the out-of-home (OOH) advertising market. With rising demand for eco-conscious business practices worldwide, adopting environmentally-friendly technologies that provide a high return on investment is critical.

magink's high resolution digital poster has been integrated into Lamar Outdoor's existing network of over 1,000 digital billboards covering prime outdoor media market space in the U.S. Unlike the light-emitting diode (LED) billboards contained in the network, magink's technology reflects ambient sunlight, providing a low power, non-intrusive visual display that is partially powered by solar panels.

This allows the technology to blend into areas previously off-limits to OOH advertisers due to light restrictions or other environmental concerns.

"Lamar aims to be a leader in the OOH adverting market with the introduction of low power, eco-friendly technologies," said Bobby Switzer, vice president of operations for Lamar.

"We believe that digital reflective technology, like magink's, can deliver the flexibility of digital media while utilizing renewable energy sources and offering a new solution for light pollution restrictions."

"Outdoor advertising companies are looking for the next generation of technologies to help them grow their businesses," said Ronen Zexer, CEO of magink.

"We believe that magink's unique full color reflective technology can meet the high-level image quality requirements of the out-of-home industry, and provide the best alternative to LED for urban environments that require minimal light pollution and shorter viewing distances."

After successful completion of trials in summer climate conditions in Pensacola, Fla., Lamar intends to test magink's technology in NYC under winter conditions.
