Beijing suspends subway line: official media

by Staff Writers
Beijing (AFP) May 28, 2008
A Beijing subway line was suspended on Wednesday due to a signal failure, China's state-run Xinhua news agency said, after earlier reporting an "emergency" was to blame.

Xinhua said service on the number two line was suspended twice because of a signal failure, adding there was no suggestion of a terrorist attack.

In its earlier report, it said the subway had been suspended for an "unspecified emergency reason."

A woman who answered the subway's information hotline also told AFP there was no cause for concern.

"There is an equipment problem at one subway station on the loop line. This problem has been resolved so all lines are normal now," the woman told AFP.
