Avidyne, an Iridium value-added reseller, has announced that Iridium has certified its MLX770 satellite downlink transceiver for operation on its satellite network.

According to Avidyne CEO Patrick Herguth, this certification clears a major technical and programmatic hurdle toward deployment of its worldwide datalink weather service for the aviation industry.

Avidyne said the MLX770, working through the Iridium network, will provide situational awareness and safety benefits for aircraft flying outside the U.S.

The product is on track for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2008.
