As an added convenience, Computrace LoJack for Laptops can be installed by Future Shop's ConnectPro experts as part of a security bundle or a standalone upgrade.

Future Shop customers can choose to have the ConnectPro team install and activate Computrace as part of their purchase, so that their computers can be protected the minute that they leave the store.

How Computrace LoJack for Laptops Solutions Work
Based on the same technology used by Absolute's corporate customers, Computrace software is embedded in the firmware of computers from the world's leading computer manufacturers right at the factory for extreme tamper-resistance.

The stealthy Computrace Agent is capable of surviving operating system re-installations, as well as hard-drive reformats, replacements and re-imaging. It can be activated by customers when they purchase a subscription with terms ranging from one to four years.

Computrace LoJack for Laptops Premium edition features a powerful Data Delete service that can remotely erase sensitive files, such as banking records, Internet cookies or photographs, for computer theft victims who are concerned about their privacy. Once initiated, this data protection service remotely deletes sensitive information using an algorithm that meets the U.S. Department of Defense deletion standard DOD5220.22-M.

In addition to theft recovery and Data Delete services, the Premium edition comes with a Service Guarantee of up to $1000 if the computer is not recovered or a Data Delete service cannot be performed(2).

All Absolute theft recovery solutions are backed by the efforts of the Absolute Theft Recovery Team. Staffed by former law enforcement officers, the team can find stolen computers because they have relationships with over 1,000 police departments across North America. With over 650 years of combined law enforcement experience, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team recovers an average of 50 lost or stolen computers on a weekly basis.

When a computer is stolen, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team uses information sent via Computrace to investigate computer thefts, document evidence and work with local law enforcement to physically recover missing computers and prosecute computer thieves.

To augment their investigation, the team uses a powerful set of theft recovery tools developed by Absolute, which include capabilities such as keystroke loggers, cameras, location tracking (Wi-Fi, GPS) and remote access tools.
