Barcelona, Spain (SPX) Feb 12, 2008 RF Micro Devices announced the introduction of the RF8000 series of location solutions for global positioning system (GPS) applications. RFMD's highly integrated, low power RF8000 series of location solutions features software-based, system-on-chip (SoC) architectures and is designed specifically for energy-sensitive mobile devices enabling location- based services. Mobile device manufacturers using the RF8000 series to enable location- based services will enjoy the benefits of a powerful processing engine implemented in a highly integrated, low power platform. The RF8000 architecture features an efficient RF design, flexible virtual correlation algorithms, powerful accelerator engine and innovative signal processing techniques, all delivered in a compact SoC format. The highly efficient architecture accommodates the stringent power requirements of cellular handsets, and the reduced solution size and minimal external component count are sensitive to the limited area available for complementary radios in mobile devices. AJ Nadler, general manager of RFMD's RF Systems Business Unit, said, "RFMD's ability to design innovative location solutions specifically for mobile device manufacturers is a direct result of our deep systems-level expertise, our broad portfolio of enabling technologies and our unique access to the performance and cost requirements of the world's leading mobile device manufacturers. "RFMD's RF8000 series of location solutions sets a new standard of performance per square millimeter with minimal impact to battery life, two key metrics to mobile device manufacturers."
