Orbit One Delivers 10,000 Tracking Devices During Hurricane Response Efforts

Bozeman MT (SPX) Oct 06, 2005
Orbit One Communications announced Wednesday that it has delivered 10,000 satellite transmitters to manage and track assets for federal, state and private agencies dedicated to the Hurricane Katrina and Rita response efforts in the Gulf Coast region of the Southeastern United States.

Both the 2004 and 2005 seasons have been noted for storm severity and for the unparalleled deployment of important mobile assets owned by several federal, state and local agencies, such as generators, trailers, heavy machinery and supply containers.

During the 2004 season, OOC demonstrated its comprehensive OrbiTRAX asset management solution by providing total asset visibility for 2,000 mobile assets throughout the storm season and the recovery response, and by recovering 100 percent of all tagged assets.

This year, the company deployed thousands more satellite-based asset tracking units and satellite telephones to agencies responding to damage caused by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita.

Orbit One Communications was founded in 2000 by president and CEO David Ronsen, based on his experience in wildland firefighting and as an Incident Commander in emergency and recovery environments.

The company specializes in providing satellite communications solutions for professionals who require reliable, secure 24x7 communications in remote locations. OOC provides installation, product customization and robust data management, service and support capabilities to clients nationwide and overseas.

OOC's OrbiTRAX logistics management solution is tailored to meet the needs of emergency response professionals. Each OrbiTRAX unit is enabled by an AXTracker battery-powered GPS- and Globalstar-based satellite telemetry device that provides location and status on a time or event-driven basis.

Earlier this year, OOC and Axonn LLC of New Orleans, LA, the manufacturer of the satellite tracking device, entered into an agreement which granted Orbit One certain exclusive distribution rights to the OrbiTRAX satellite tracking unit for the emergency response market.

"For years, Orbit One has kept emergency response professionals in communication with each other," stated Gary Naden, Vice President of Axonn. "Orbit One understands the unique demands placed on agencies that must deploy and track expensive and much needed assets in often chaotic environments."

"By working with Axonn, Orbit One has greatly expanded its capabilities to provide reliable visibility of the life-critical resources that emergency response professionals and the public depend upon," said David Ronsen, president and CEO of Orbit One.

"Each natural disaster or emergency situation brings with it unique challenges. We needed to offer a versatile and robust, proven technology to handle the demands of any large-scale disaster environment, whether affected by hurricanes, earthquakes, fires or WMDs.

"The OrbiTRAX system provides our customers exactly that type of solution. They are currently deployed on every type of emergency response asset, from generators to fire trucks, and on trucks carrying everything from MREs to baby food."
