Navman Announces The New iCN 550 High-End Portable Guidance System

The NEW iCN 550 Navman premium Drive-Away in car navigation system with 4 GB hard drive touch screen display and standard remote control with pre-loaded USA maps including new SmartST version 2005 and maps.

Raleigh NC (SPX) Sep 30, 2005
Navman announced Thursday the addition of a new flagship device to its rapidly expanding consumer electronics and automotive personal navigation product line.

The technically advanced iCN 550 offers drivers the ultimate in navigation functionality while exemplifying true design elegance. Designed for out-of-box functionality and immediate operation, the iCN 550 is DriveAway ready with complete U.S. and Canadian map data loaded on its internal 4GB hard drive, and no software set-up required.

Unlike competitive navigation systems that require users to dig deep into software menus to access vital information, the iCN 550 features a new intuitive button layout that puts information at the driver's fingertips.

Located in the top left-hand corner of the device, dedicated Points-of- Interest (POI) buttons provide instant access to the location of nearby gas stations or parking lots - saving time and eliminating hassle; a scroll wheel volume control is located on the right side of unit for quick adjustments to the devices ultra-powerful/crystal clear integrated speaker; and +/- map zoom keys are located in the device's upper right-hand corner.

Powered by SmartST 2005, the iCN 550 provides users with a wealth of new convenience and performance features for effective navigation, while eliminating the complexities of competitive systems.

Exciting features of the new device include an improved address entry system that facilitates quick and accurate town, zip code, street, intersection and house number searches; a journey planning utility that allows users to program up to 12 stops while en route to their destination; enhanced routing algorithms that ensure users are traveling on the most intuitive course; an extensive POI database with nearest POI search; MyPOI functionality for downloading and importing third-party POI databases; and clear turn-by-turn voice instructions for reliable route guidance.

User-selectable navigation screens include 3D map view, 2D map view, quick next-maneuver icon view with 2D mini-map, a text-based instruction list that displays the next four maneuvers, and new detailed junction maps that help drivers make visible associations with their actual surroundings.

"Our new iCN 550 offers the ultimate balance of advanced functionality, ease of use and elegance of design," said Chris Jensen, vice president and general manager of Navman USA. "With full U.S. and Canadian maps preloaded, there is no installation required, and the iCN550's new smart button layout puts access to the features drivers need most frequently, such as nearest parking and gas stations, right at their fingertips."

The Navman iCN 550 features a high-resolution (320x240), 3.5-inch QVGA, touchscreen display; employs a reliable, integrated flip-up, high-performance GPS antenna; houses a pre-charged, long-lasting internal Lithium-Ion battery for operating the unit without external power; and comes preloaded with the latest Tele Atlas street-level map data for the entire U.S. and Canada.

The complete iCN 550 solution includes a vehicle power adapter and mounting bracket; a remote control and stylus for quick and efficient data entry; a USB sync cable and power pack for PC connectivity; and a protective carrying case for convenient storage and travel.

Availability

Navman's iCN 550 is currently available at electronics stores nationwide and competitively priced at U.S. $699.95. For more information on the iCN 550, Navman and its entire GPS product line, contact 866-9NAVMAN (toll-free).
