ATK Receives Order For JDAM For Precision Sensors

satellite warfare

Minneapolis - Nov 13, 2003
Alliant Techsystems (ATK) has been awarded a production option valued at $17 million for the DSU-33B/B precision proximity sensor, which is used in the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and other air-delivered ordnance.

The option is the second one awarded under a basic production contract that could be worth approximately $75 million by the end of 2008 if all options are exercised. The award brings the total value of orders received for the DSU-33B/B sensor to $34 million in 2003.

ATK Ordnance and Ground Systems is producing the DSU-33B/B sensor at its production facilities in Janesville, Wis. And Plymouth, Minn.

The DSU-33B/B proximity sensor is an all-weather, battery-operated sensor that initiates detonation above the ground, increasing the effectiveness of air-delivered ordnance. The sensor design allows tactical fighter aircraft flown by the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and allied forces to deliver ordnance from both low and high altitudes.

One of four operating units that comprise ATK's Precision Systems Group, ATK Ordnance and Ground Systems is a major supplier of precision fuzes and sensors to the U.S. government. The company has produced over 70 different fuzes and proximity sensors for use in artillery, mortar, rocket, cannon, air- delivered, and special operations systems.
