Joy and tears greet US Army troops back from Iraq

Mothers cried and children squealed with delight as a company of US troops arrived back from Iraq on Saturday, after a year-long tour marked by desert heat and monotony. A crowd of families roared as 124 soldiers from Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, arrived marching in formation, part of a wave of homecomings as President Barack Obama scales back the US role in Iraq. Putin wants Russian satnav system in new cars from 2012

All new Russian cars could come equipped with Moscow's GLONASS satellite navigation system, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday, with a tax to be levied on the rival GPS system. US appeals court nixes GPS tracking without warrant
Washington (AFP) Aug 6, 2010
A US appeals court ruled Friday that police cannot track a suspect using GPS technology without a warrant, tossing out the conviction of a man arrested for drug dealing. The US Court of Appeals in Washington overturned the 2008 conviction of Antoine Jones, saying police violated his constitutional rights by tracking his movements with a satellite navigation system device installed on his vehicle without a warrant.
